THE ADJUSTABLE wrench, often called the Crescent wrench, has been a toolbox essential for generations. Early motorists used them extensively to make repairs on the fly. The only tools Charles Lindbergh brought on his famous solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927 were pliers and a Crescent wrench. During Crescent’s first 25 years, Peterson helped design nearly half of the plant’s machinery. The company remained a family-owned operation until 1960, when Marvin Peterson, Karl’s only son, sold it to a holding company.
